Okay, Okay I know- these are not all natural or organic, and I normally do not consume artificial ingredients or sweeteners, but Shelley Holcomb at Skinny Water asked if I wanted to do a review of some of Skinny Water’s drinks, and I decided to take the plunge (no pun intended!).
According to the website, they only use minimal amounts of sucralose (yay!), and also have no calories, carbohydrates or preservatives. The color made for the water is also derived from natural sources, like fruits and vegetables.
The company sent me their flavors which come in Wake-Up, Total V, Crave Control, Shape, Hi-Energy, and XXX Detox. Think of these as zero calorie vitamin waters (except Vitamin Water actually does make zero calorie varieties now!). They are about the same size, and have cute sayings and health benefits for each.
Wake-Up-this one is a combination of orange, cranberry and tangerine flavors. It provides 250% of your daily needs of vitamin C too. This one was actually my favorite of all of them. It tasted EXACTLY like Sunny-D that I used to drink when I was little at the beach! Ah, nostalgia… Anyway- it was sweet and tangy, and really woke me up!
Total V-this one is a combination of lemon and passionfruit flavors. This one was my second favorite, as it had a real tropical taste to it. The passionfruit was delicious, and went perfectly with the lemon (not tart, but sweet!)
Crave Control- this one is a combination of raspberry and pomegranate flavors. I didn’t really like this one- it tasted watered down, and not really all that fruity. It also had a weird “fake berry” after taste.
Shape- this one is a combination of goji and fruit punch flavors. I also wasn’t crazy about this one, but it was better than the Crave Control. It did have a nice fruit punch flavor, but wasn’t really that sweet. I think it would be good if you liked lightly sweetened beverages (if you are used to those SUPER sweet drinks, I wouldn’t go for this one!)
Hi-Energy- this one is flavors of acai and blueberry. I enjoyed this one- no fake flavors, and I liked the blueberry undertones. Normally blueberry flavored things are gross in my opinion (unless they use ACTUAL blueberries, like in yogurt!), but this one wasn’t bad. I would dirnk it again!
XXX Detox- this one has peach, mango and mandarin flavors. Again, this one was not very strong in the flavor department, and was mildly sweet. In a way it was reassuring, knowing that since the flavor was mellow, my body wasn’t consuming too much of the artificial sweeteners I try to avoid. However, it was enjoyable, with a light peach and mango taste. It reminded me of white tea in a way.
Overall, I give these 4 stars. I like how they aren’t OVERPOWERINGLY sweet, and that the only “bad” ingredient is the sucralose. The rest of the ingredients aren’t too shabby, and there are no artificial colors or preservatives. Give em a try, you might like them (Definitely try the WAKE-UP flavor, too! )
