Lisa, the Health Nut

I'm lisa and I loooove healthy food!  The lifestyle I chose to live is eating only natural or organic food products, minimally processed whenever possible.  What I can't stand is that people may  automatically assume all "health food" that I eat isn't flavorful or tasty.  THIS IS NOT TRUE!  Why would I eat stuff that doesn't taste good?  So my mission is to spread the word that "healthy" does not mean "tasteless".  Healthy food can be just as yummy as the not-so healthy types!   I'll let you know what foods are good, and which ones aren't so good. :)

LaraBar Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Tropical Fruit Tart

I was sent a few bars to try from LaraBar, including the new Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor, and the not-so-new, Tropical Fruit Tart. I was excited- cookie dough anything has thumbs up in my book, and I do love fruity flavors as well.  These bars are a bit on the small side than what I’m used to for the calories they provide. They are about the size of your 2 fingers for width, and your pointer finger for length, at 45 grams each.

Tropical Fruit Tart- woo! This one was fruity! I could definetly taste the orange and pineapple flavor immediately upon tasting it. The smell is also awesome! So fresh, fruity, and well, summery! There were little bits of almonds scattered throughout the bar, and also little bits of coconut which provided texture to the overall chewy and dense feel of the bar. It wasn’t too sweet, but enjoyable. My mom tried a bit, and she said it tasted like a fruit cake. 3 1/2 stars

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough- okay. can we say YUM!? Not only did I receive these on a hot day, so they awaited in my mailbox all nice and gooey and melty, but this was really tasty! The chocolate chips were melted, and had a sweet chocolate flavor, and there actually were a lot of them too. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and had a nice cashew flavor. It didn’t really taste like cookie dough, more like a soft baked cookie right out of the oven, but either way- delicious! The only drawback is I could TOTALLY inhale 2 of these at once, and each is 220 calories. Yikes! 4 1/2 stars

Overall, I really enjoyed these. I think it’s great that they provide healthy fats, some fiber and help towards your daily fruit servings, as well as having minimal ingredients and being all natural. Although small and calorie dense, I think they are a good snack or good before a workout. The back of the wrapper says they “will lift your vitality and provide energy with every bite”, and I agree. These rock!
