I'm lisa and I loooove healthy food!  The lifestyle I chose to live is eating only natural or organic food products, minimally processed whenever possible.  What I can't stand is that people may  automatically assume all "health food" that I eat isn't flavorful or tasty.  THIS IS NOT TRUE!  Why would I eat stuff that doesn't taste good?  So my mission is to spread the word that "healthy" does not mean "tasteless".  Healthy food can be just as yummy as the not-so healthy types!   I'll let you know what foods are good, and which ones aren't so good. :)

Clif Bar & Company Energy Bars

Clif Bar & Company is one of my favorites- they make all natural and organic bars and products that help fuel the active lifestyle. One of  the things I eat before a workout is the Clif Bar energy bars. They come in a bunch of flavors in order to please a variety of people. You can view all the flavors on the website, here

Anyway, Clif Bar and Company was nice enough to send me some of their energy bars, including some of the seasonal ones. I decided to write up about the Chocolate Chip, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and Spiced Pumpkin Pie varieties. These are ideal before a workout for me, as I find them to be easily digested and provide the energy I need to kickbox, run, or whatever!

Each bar is about the size of an index card in length, and has a chewy, dense consistency.

Chocolate Chip is my favorite of the 3. It’s sweet and chewy, with big chocolate chips. It really tastes like cookie dough to me, especially when you heat it in the microwave for a few seconds (then the chocolate chips become gooey and just delicious!). And, if you let it sit for a minute or so after  microwaving it, it gets  a little bit of a “crunch” to it, which I would imagine to be from the oats. Another idea- smear some good ol’ peanut butter on it. What  better than salty & sweet combo? :)  5 stars

Next up on the list, is the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. Also a divine flavor, this one is sweet and has a delicious drizzly coating of white chocolate icing, as well as white chocolate chunks throughout the bar. It’s buttery and flavor, and the macadamia nuts add a nice touch, without being overpowering. Again, awesome heated in the microwave :) 5 stars

Next up, the seasonal Spiced Pumpkin Pie . It has a nice pumpkin flavor, and you can definietely taste the nutmeg and spices. The thick coating of icing on top is the perfect addition, a sweet vanilla that balances the spices in this bar. The chewy raisins also add a nice touch, and make it feel more home-made. There were also pieces of almonds, which I could have done without, but weren’t bad. 4 stars
*note, this one is a seasonal flavor, meaning it’s only available during late in fall/winter season.
But once you can find it, it’s worth it!*

Overall, I loooove these bars! Although the downside is that they are a tad high in sugar per bar, it is good to energize you for a workout, or a meal on the go with some fruit or veggies. They are high in protein, fortified with vitamins and minerals, generally low in fat, and a good source of fiber per bar. They are also all natural and made with organic ingredients. I would highly reccomend these for the active lifestyle, or if you just want a yummy treat!
